Here is what I was able to find out for you : Custom UI XML files will not currently be loaded if the change number at the top of the file ("$Change: .....") differs from the Live one. This is the case in the versions 1.0.1 and 1.0.2. The numbers have to match the ones in the original files in our "Default" directory in those versions.

Example : <!-- $Change: 310823 $ (must be within the first 200 characters of the file) -->

This check will be removed in the next version, Version 1.1, which is scheduled to come to Testlive soon.
